Guerrilla Marketing gives you, the guerrilla freelancer, a huge advantage over your competition because it allows you to not take the traditional methods of advertising.

So, in order to inspire you and get your creative juices flowing, today we're going to look over some kick ass guerrilla marketing examples, where every day business, and even some larger ones, take the ordinary and flip it on it's head.

Whopper Apartment

La Despensa was tasked with helping launch the Burger King delivery service in Spain, so they created: The Whopper Apartment. Unsuspecting people came to the apartment because it was listed for rent, and instead of finding an an apartment for rent, there was a burger king in place of the kitchen.

TD Bank: #MakeTodayMatter

"Here's $30,000. Now, go out and do something great for your community. And we do mean now. You’ve got 24 hours to bring your dream to life" That's what TD Bank tasked 24 people in the US and Canada with as part of it's #MakeTodayMatter campaign.

Lenovo's Broken Laptop Prank

We all know what the freelance community thinks of Mac laptops, so what do you think would happen if you were walking by as someone broke one right in front of you? Gasp, shock, the horror! Right? Well, Lenovo needed a creative way to promote the launch of the 'Yoga 3 Pro' laptop which can bend backwards, so they teamed up with the UCB Comedy team to scare people in the most hilarious way possible.

Quebec City Magic Festival's magic mop

If you're promoting a magic festival and not using some form of magic trick to get peoples attention, you're obviously in the wrong business. Luckily for us, Montreal-based ad agency lg2 came up with a clever way of drawing attention to their billboard.

Kitten Therapy: The prescription for stress

The internet LOVES ALL THE CATS, but there's a special place in all of our hearts for tiny little kittens, and Purina Tidy Cats knows that fact and used it for their recent promotional campaign by inviting people into their glass stress therapy office and let them play with kittens. Cuteness overload!

Subway Sauna

Spa Zuiver, a wellness center in Amsterdam, transformed a subway into a wellness center, instantly making the mundane task of taking the subway much more enjoyable, and leaving a lasting impression on each and every person that came through the subway that day.

McDonalds' Rock, Paper, Scissors

In order to promote their Children's day, McDonald's brought back one of our favorite games from childhood, rock, paper, scissors, and if you won you got your meal for free. A fun, inexpensive way to draw extra attention to your business and get people talking to everyone they see that day. I mean, who wouldn't tell everyone "I got a Big Mac value meal for free because I beat the cashier in rock, paper, scissors"?!?!

Pepsi's Monster Mirror

Talk about scary, this past Halloween Pepsi turned a mirror at a local cinema into a freak show, starring the person standing in front of the mirror. Using facial recognition, they created a scary experience that instantly got the persons attention and also made for some great footage to use for promotion online, like the video below.

Underground Party from Redbull

Here's a simple, yet highly effective guerrilla marketing tactic to grab peoples attention. During ADE Red Bull surprised ADE visitors with a live stream of the Redbull Studios Playrooms, with stenciled messages next to sewer drains and MP3 players inside of them blaring music and giving a new definition to the term underground party.

Nescafé: Red Mugs

And finally we have the campaign that melts the digital and physical world together perfectly. 1,000 red mugs from Nescafé were left around two separate cities and the only way to unlock them is to connect to a Facebook application. Digital, meet physical. You're a perfect match.
